Health coursework is also an integral part of studying Spanish and International Health, and through my courses I gained a deeper understanding of the United States and foreign healthcare systems, global health perspective as well as being able to communicate in both Spanish and English in a healthcare setting with future patients. Examination of the forces that have influenced current health delivery systems, health practices, and trends. General systems theory is introduced.

OVERVIEW OF HEALTHCARE SYSTEMS
Introduction to the health care delivery system including public health and health care components. Examines and discusses individual and public expectations of need and demand for health care and delivery of public health and health care services.

DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH BEHAVIOR
Analysis of health behaviors based on psychological, social, cultural, and environmental factors. Introduces health behavior theories.

HUMAN HEALTH AND DISEASE
Study of good health practices emphasizing lifestyles and measures of health. Health majors are given enrollment priority.

Introduces epidemiological principles and methods used in the study of the origin, distribution, and control of disease.

Utilizes laboratory experiences to measure health risk, interpret laboratory health data, and design personal health programs

FOUNDATIONS IN RURAL HEALTH
This course introduces students to rural health and the unique social, economic, and cultural influences on the health of those in rural communities. It provides an examination of how those in rural communities experience health disparities and ways to achieve rural health equity. There is a focus on unique subgroups within rural communities and how specific social, environment, economic, and behavior determinants influence health.

GLOBAL HEALTH
Deepens students’ knowledge of global health and how public health work is conducted internationally. Introduction to assessment of international health needs and designing, implementing, managing, and evaluating public health programs in international settings.

RESEARCH AND EVALUATION STRATEGIES FOR PUBLIC HEALTH
Discussion of research in health. Focuses on analysis of reported research. Ethical, moral, and legal issues are discussed.
