A literature review from a socio-ecological approach
This artifact was written during my Health and the Hispanic Community class, where we were tasked to select a health problem of our choice that affected latin communities within the U.S. and write a literature review with the information we found. Having previously written a literature review on natural disaster preparedness in vulnerable populations I felt that this would provide a good base for researching that topic in greater depth. It was at times challenging to find information regarding latin communities specifically in the U.S. as many studies do not focus on large groups of hispanics at a time, but when narrowing my search to more specific questions I was able to find the information I needed. This taught me how to have patience and think outside of the box in order to accomplish my project goals. This paper also allowed me to attain an extensive comprehension of what natural disaster preparedness and response looks like in multiple community settings within the U.S. which better equips me in helping those areas in my future work.

An Analysis of the Cuban Healthcare System
This artifact was written during my Spanish for Health Management Professional class, where we were assigned to select a Latin American or Caribbean country and evaluate different aspects of their healthcare system. Over the course of the semester we broke down each section of the paper, where each week focused specifically on one aspect in order for our class to provide a deeper analysis. I chose Cuba because I wanted to learn more about my ancestors' country and how politics have affected healthcare over the past couple of decades. While writing this paper it was difficult at times to find accurate data because of the strained relationship the United States has with Cuba, but overall I gained a better insight into what a universal healthcare system looks like and operates. I believe this project will allow me to better examine and explore other healthcare systems, looking at how each part plays into the overall condition and performances of that particular system. The research process of this paper gave me the opportunity to increase my cultural humility and enhance my cross-cultural awareness and competence.
